Wholesale Sourcing Industries China Supplies, Sector by Sector

Pioneer Group is a bulk-only sourcing agent working out of an office in Yiwu, China, and almost everything we buy falls into eight sectors. This page walks through the wholesale sourcing industries China is strongest in, what buyers in each one actually order, and the specific things that go wrong when nobody on the ground is checking.

The commercial terms are the same across all the wholesale sourcing industries China exports: a US$5,000 minimum order value, and commission of 3% to 5% depending on order quantity. If your category is not on this list, ask anyway. We have access to 5,000+ factories, and the Yiwu International Trade City alone carries 1.8 million product types across 75,000+ booths (more on how the Yiwu market is organized).

The wholesale sourcing industries China covers for our buyers

Across the wholesale sourcing industries China supplies, buyers almost never arrive with a single product. A supermarket group wants cleaning supplies, storage boxes and seasonal decorations in the same container. A distributor wants phone accessories alongside small kitchen appliances. Yiwu suits that pattern, because the categories sit close to each other and one agent can quote, inspect and consolidate all of it into a single shipment.

Below are the eight wholesale sourcing industries China buyers ask us about most often. Each one is broken down further down this page. For a broader product list, see our wholesale product categories in Yiwu, and if you already know your sector and just want prices, our Yiwu sourcing agent service in China is the direct route.

High volume

Retail, electronics and home goods: the high-volume sectors

Of all the wholesale sourcing industries China serves, these three move at the highest unit counts, which is where a small specification mistake gets multiplied across tens of thousands of units.

Electronics components produced in China for bulk accessory and gadget orders
Sector 01 · Retail and supermarkets

Retail chains and supermarkets

Typical orders: cleaning products, plastic storage, disposable tableware, seasonal and holiday decorations, and private-label everyday basics. What to watch for: carton dimensions that actually pallet out efficiently, barcode and label placement agreed before production rather than after, retail-ready packaging that survives handling, and color drift between your first order and your reorder. Ask for a sealed reference sample and keep it. Chains reorder, and the second batch is where consistency quietly slips.

Sector 02 · Electronics and accessoriesTypical orders: phone cases and cables, chargers, power banks, LED lighting, small speakers and simple gadgets. What to watch for: certification and marking requirements in your destination market, plug types, and battery rules. Anything containing lithium cells has shipping restrictions, particularly by air, so decide the freight mode before you decide the quantity. Also insist on functional testing across a proper random sample, not a handful of units off the top of the carton. Component substitution between batches is a risk in this sector, and it is what pre-shipment quality inspection in China exists to catch.
Sector 03 · Home and kitchenTypical orders: cookware, drinkware, food storage, plastics, textiles for the home, and small appliances. What to watch for: food-contact material documentation, coating and non-stick quality, handle and joint strength, and voltage plus plug standard on anything electrical. Breakage in transit is a real risk here, so carton strength and inner packing matter as much as the product itself.
Specialist sectors

Beauty, textiles, hardware, promotional goods and packaging

These are the wholesale sourcing industries China buyers most often underestimate on specification, and they are where a written spec earns its keep.

The remaining five wholesale sourcing industries China covers are more specialized. They are usually smaller in cubic meters but tighter on specification, and several of them are deadline-driven.

Sector 04 · Beauty and personal care

Tools and packaging, filled locally

Typical orders: brushes, applicators, mirrors, hair tools, nail and lash supplies, and empty cosmetic packaging such as jars, pumps and droppers. What to watch for: most markets regulate imported formulations far more heavily than they regulate tools, which is why a lot of buyers source accessories and packaging here and fill locally. Check skin-contact materials, required label languages, and note that minimums are usually set per color or per mold, not per order.

Sector 05 · Textiles and fashionTypical orders: socks, T-shirts, underwear, scarves, caps, bags and workwear or uniforms. What to watch for: fabric weight in GSM stated in writing, shrinkage and colorfastness after washing, and size grading, since Chinese sizing rarely matches your market without adjustment. Dye lots vary between production runs, so if color matters, order the full quantity in one run rather than topping up later.
Sector 06 · Hardware and toolsTypical orders: hand tools, fasteners, electrical fittings, plumbing parts and garden tools. What to watch for: claimed material grade against actual material, plating quality, and rust after weeks in a humid container. Load-bearing and electrical items are the wrong place to buy on price alone.
Sector 07 · Promotional and event goodsTypical orders: branded giveaways, tote bags, lanyards, drinkware, gift sets and conference kits. What to watch for: the print method changes both the cost and the result, so agree screen, pad or heat transfer up front, supply proper artwork files, and confirm Pantone references. These orders have immovable delivery dates, so build the schedule backwards from your event, allow for the Chinese New Year factory shutdown, and confirm the production calendar with us before you commit to an event date.
Sector 08 · Food-adjacent packagingWe source packaging and containers, not food itself. Typical orders: paper cups, takeaway containers, pouches, bottles, jars, caps and closures, and printed cartons. What to watch for: food-grade material documentation, wall thickness and gram weight (this is where suppliers cut cost invisibly), leak testing, and dimensional fit with your existing filling or sealing line. Packaging is bulky relative to its value, so freight cost, not unit price, usually decides whether the order makes sense.

Industry sourcing questions

My product does not fit any of these eight industries. Can you still source it?

Usually yes. The eight sectors on this page are simply the wholesale sourcing industries China buyers ask us about most, not a limit on what Pioneer Group will quote. We have access to 5,000+ factories beyond the market booths, so send a photo, a target specification and a rough quantity, and we will tell you honestly whether it is something we can do well or something you are better off sourcing elsewhere.

Does the minimum order value change depending on the industry?

No. The minimum is US$5,000 in order value across every sector, and commission runs from 3% to 5% depending on order quantity. That is the same across every one of the wholesale sourcing industries China exports. What does change by industry is how that value is reached. In packaging or textiles it may be a single high-volume line, while a supermarket buyer often reaches it by combining several categories in one order.

I need products from several different industries in one shipment. Is that a problem?

That is the normal case rather than the exception. Goods from different suppliers and different categories are received, checked and consolidated at our warehouse in Yiwu before a single shipment leaves, so mixing electronics, home goods and packaging in one container is straightforward. Tell us the full list at quoting stage so the freight is costed correctly from the start.
