Kitchenware leaves Yiwu in volume and it is an easy category to get wrong. Buying wholesale kitchenware from China means buying materials and coatings you cannot judge by eye. Two stock pots can look identical, quote far apart, and fail differently in a working kitchen.
What wholesale kitchenware from China includes
Several product groups hide behind one word, and a factory strong in one is usually weak in the next.
The four groups you will be quoting
Cookware carries the metallurgy: pots, pans, woks. Bakeware is carbon or aluminised steel with a release coating, made on other lines. Tools and gadgets are stainless, nylon and silicone. Tabletop and serveware brings lead and cadmium limits.
Order sizes in this category
Factories price per model, size and colour run. Coated goods carry higher minimums than bare stainless, because the line is purged for each colour. Sharing one steel thickness and one handle design across models lowers a quote faster than volume. See our guide to MOQ by category.
Stainless steel grades: 201 and 304
Anyone buying wholesale kitchenware from China meets both grades on one quote sheet. 304 holds 8 to 10 percent nickel, and that nickel resists salt, acid and detergent. 201 swaps most of it for manganese. It costs less and pits against brine, tomato and vinegar. On a fruit bowl that is cosmetic. On a stock pot it is a return.
| Point of comparison | 201 stainless | 304 stainless |
|---|---|---|
| Nickel | About 1 percent | About 8 to 10 percent |
| Salt and acid | Pits and stains | Holds up |
| Normally quoted for | Racks, shells, trim | Food contact surfaces |
| After a year of washing | Rust at welds and rims | Surface intact |
Why the difference is invisible
Polished 201 and polished 304 look identical. A magnet does not separate them, because both take on magnetism from deep drawing. That leaves the grade on the invoice, which the supplier types.
How to make the grade checkable
Write the grade per component, not per product. “304 body, 304 lid rim, 201 trim band” is a specification. “Stainless steel” is not. Ask for the mill certificate for your coil, and have a spot test or XRF reading taken on finished pieces at inspection.
Non stick coatings and their paperwork
A coating is quoted as a name and a number of layers. Both belong on the proforma.
Coating types you will be offered
PTFE systems are built in two or three coats: primer, midcoat, topcoat. More layers means longer release life and a higher price. Ceramic, a sol gel silica coating, is the PTFE free option and fades faster under heat.
Ask which coating brand and code the factory uses, in writing. Coating suppliers certify their own material, so the factory can hand it over. A factory that cannot name its supplier is buying by the drum, and that batch is untraceable.
Food contact compliance by destination
Compliance for wholesale kitchenware from China is set by where the goods land. The United States works from FDA food contact rules, the European Union from Regulation 1935/2004, and German LFGB testing is often asked on top. Decide the destination before you order testing.
One report per material, not per order
A report is tied to a coating code, a steel grade, a colour and a factory. A report for the black pan does not cover the red one. Check the issue date, the laboratory and the product photographed.
Handle attachment is the usual failure point
Riveted handles are strongest and show inside the pan. Spot welded handles keep the interior clean and depend on weld quality and steel thickness. Screwed handles loosen under heat cycling unless thread adhesive is specified. Bakelite cracks at the collar if moulded too fast, and the crack shows only under load.
Put a load test in the inspection scope: filled to rated capacity, lifted and held, and repeated after heat cycles. Vibration on the sea leg loosens what was marginal, so these defects surface on arrival. Your route to a claim rests on what inspection recorded, at the acceptable quality limit agreed.
Where Pioneer Group takes over
All of it is checkable by a buyer with a specification and a lab report. The layer we do not publish is the floor work: standing at the coating line while your colour runs, reading the Chinese language batch records, and pushing a rework through in Mandarin before the container closes.
We work from Yiwu, beside the Yiwu International Trade City with its 75,000 plus booths, and we reach 5,000 plus factories. See the full category list, or how a Yiwu sourcing agent runs the work.
Questions buyers ask
How do I confirm the steel is really 304?
Specify the grade per component, ask for the mill certificate for your coil, and have a spot test or XRF reading taken on finished pieces.
What is the minimum order for wholesale kitchenware from China?
Factories set minimums per model, size and colour, and coated items sit higher than bare stainless. We work from a US$5,000 minimum order value.
Do I need separate test reports for each colour?
Yes, when colour is part of the coating system. The report is tied to a material and a process, so each colour needs its own.
Pioneer Group is a China sourcing agent based in Yiwu, China, helping wholesale and bulk buyers source, inspect and consolidate orders before handover to the buyer’s freight agent.
How Pioneer Group can help
Kitchenware problems are material problems, and a photograph shows none of them. Buyers of wholesale kitchenware from China gain most from an agent in Yiwu, because grade, coating batch and handle weld are only confirmed at the factory while the order runs.
- Sourcing. Access to 5,000+ factories, with quotes and samples gathered and compared before you commit.
- Quality inspection. Three stages, raw material, in production, and pre-shipment, with photo and video reports on every batch.
- Consolidation and freight-agent handover. Orders from multiple suppliers are received at our Yiwu warehouse, consolidated, and handed to the buyer’s nominated freight agent.
Commission is 3 to 5 percent depending on volume and it is negotiable, paid by you and never by the factory, so the price you see is the factory price.
