The Christmas shelf date never moves. The factory calendar behind it does. Buyers of wholesale Christmas decorations from China are buying a place in a production queue that fills in the first half of the year. Order in September and you have bought next year’s stock.
Wholesale Christmas decorations from China run on a fixed calendar
Seasonal factories do not hold stock, they sell capacity. A plant making light strings or ornaments runs the season for six or seven months, then converts. Two dates govern the rest: your shelf date, early November in most markets, and Chinese New Year.
The buying calendar month by month
| Period | Factories | Buyer |
|---|---|---|
| January to February | Holiday shutdown | Request samples |
| March to April | Samples, prices set | Approve samples, fix packing |
| May to June | Production window open | Order and deposit |
| July to August | Capacity tight | Inspect, book freight |
| September | Freight peak | Final inspection, ship |
| October onward | Lines convert | Air freight only |
What Chinese New Year does to the schedule
Chinese New Year falls between late January and mid February, and the date moves. The official holiday is a week, the real one longer: plants wind down before it and run short handed for weeks after. Sampling stops too: ask in December for March samples. See our post on production lead times in China.
What sits inside this category
Seasonal and party is not one product line but four or five, each with its own factory type, lead time and compliance file. One order of wholesale Christmas decorations from China usually pulls from three or four plants in different halls of the Yiwu market. Our category guide maps them.
Light strings and anything electrical
Longest lead time, heaviest compliance load, and the first item customs stops. Voltage, plug and cable spec are market specific: a 230 volt string with a European plug is unsellable in a 120 volt market. Outdoor strings need a sealed rating, commonly IP44. Order these first.
Trees, wreaths, garland and soft goods
Volume is what hurts. A container fills long before it hits its weight limit, so carton size and branch tip count decide freight cost more than unit price. Ask for carton dimensions and the load quantity in a 40ft high cube.
Party goods and seasonal tableware
Balloons, napkins, crackers, themed tableware. Short lead times and low prices, with print colour the thing that drifts from the sample. Approve a printed proof, not a digital file.
Safety standards decide whether the order clears
Flammability on soft decorations
Soft decorations burn, and every market regulates how fast. In the United States, textile decorations for public venues usually pass NFPA 701 testing. In Europe, decorations a child could treat as toys fall under EN 71 part 2. A report covers one material from one supplier: a fabric or tinsel change mid run voids it.
Electrical safety on light strings
US seasonal lighting is covered by UL 588. In Europe, lighting chains fall under EN 60598-2-20, with CE marking and RoHS behind it. Ask for the test report and certificate number, and check it names your exact model. Our notes on CE and FCC certification cover what those marks miss.
Why ordering late is fatal here, not merely inconvenient
A late shipment usually costs a few weeks of sales. Here it costs the year. Late orders of wholesale Christmas decorations from China fail three ways at once.
Capacity goes first: by August the good factories are full. Freight goes second: August to October is peak season, as our page on shipping from China explains. Value goes third: an ornament that misses December sits in storage for eleven months, then clears in January at a fraction of cost.
Inspection carries the same deadline: an acceptable quality limit failure in September becomes a decision about which faults you are willing to sell.
The layer we keep: holding your slot in the factory queue
Everything above is public. What we keep is the factory floor from June to September, where capacity gets promised more than once. When a larger order lands, a smaller one slides and nobody says so. You find out when the ship date moves twice.
Getting it back is a conversation in Mandarin, in person, with the person who schedules the line, and it means knowing whether your goods are on that line or in a workshop out of town. For wholesale Christmas decorations from China, that is the gap between an October arrival and a February one. A Yiwu sourcing agent applies that pressure weekly.
Frequently asked questions
When should I order wholesale Christmas decorations from China?
Pay the deposit in May or June for sea freight that lands before the season. Custom printing or packing belongs in March or April, because artwork rounds sit ahead of production.
Can I mix light strings, ornaments and party goods in one shipment?
Yes. Goods from several factories are collected at our Yiwu warehouse and combined into one shipment. Our minimum order value is US$5,000, which a mixed order can spread across.
Do I need certificates before the goods ship?
For electrical items, and decorations facing flammability rules, yes, and you want them at the sample stage. Asking after production is how a season gets stranded at the port.
Pioneer Group is a China sourcing agent based in Yiwu, China, helping wholesale and bulk buyers source, inspect, consolidate, and ship orders from China.
How Pioneer Group can help
Lights, ornaments and tableware rarely share a plant, so a seasonal order runs on several schedules at once. An agent in Yiwu keeps them aligned and ships the lot in one consignment before the freight peak.
- Sourcing. Access to 5,000+ factories, with quotes and samples gathered and compared before you commit.
- Quality inspection. Three stages, raw material, in production, and pre-shipment, with photo and video reports on every batch.
- Consolidation and shipping. Goods from many suppliers collected at our Yiwu warehouse and combined into one shipment, then handed to your forwarder.
Commission is 3 to 5 percent depending on volume and it is negotiable, paid by you and never by the factory, so the price you see is the factory price.
