Wholesale LED Lighting From China: 5 Checks

Wholesale LED lighting from China

Wholesale LED lighting from China is an electrical order, not a decorative one. A lamp that fails is not a returned item. It is a liability, and the importer of record carries it.

Yiwu sells the decorative end in volume: string lights, solar stakes, festival lighting, small fixtures. The drivers and cord sets are where the orders go wrong. Start with the category overview.

What wholesale LED lighting from China must match in each market

Voltage, frequency and the cord set

Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia run 220 to 240 volts at 50 hertz. North America runs 100 to 127 volts at 60 hertz. A factory builds its domestic 220 volt version unless told otherwise. Put the range on the order and the label.

Plug type is decided country by country

The cord set is bought in from a subcontractor, so it is the part most often wrong. Britain takes the fused BS 1363 plug, fuse fitted and rated. Continental Europe takes Schuko, or the Europlug on double insulated units. Australia, India and Brazil differ again. Specify the standard and cross section.

CE and UKCA marking on lighting

CE is a manufacturer declaration, not a certificate issued by an authority. UKCA is the British equivalent. Printing the mark costs nothing, so the mark is not evidence. The file behind it is.

Low voltage and EMC

Mains lighting falls under the Low Voltage Directive, safety between 50 and 1000 volts AC, and the EMC Directive, interference. Drivers are switching supplies, so the EMC report is not a formality. Ask for both, from a named laboratory, on the exact model. Our guide to CE and FCC basics covers it.

RoHS sits on components, not on the box

RoHS restricts lead, cadmium and other substances in the parts: solder, wiring, sleeving, plug. The factory buys those in. A compliant sample and a non compliant run can share a model number, so due diligence reaches the bill of materials.

The driver decides the lifetime, not the diode

Capacitors and heat

Chips are rated at 30,000 hours or more, yet units come back within months. The driver failed, not the diodes. Cheap drivers use electrolytic capacitors, which dry out as they heat, and sealed housings run hot. Ask which driver is fitted and how its capacitor is rated.

Flicker and dimming

Low cost drivers flicker at mains frequency: invisible in a showroom, obvious on a phone camera. A non dimmable driver on a dimmer buzzes or fails, so settle dimming per model.

IP ratings and outdoor strings

An IP rating has two digits: solids first, water second. IP44 survives splashing, IP65 jets, IP67 short immersion. The rating belongs to one tested unit, not a family. Ask whether it covers the connectors and driver box.

Why string lights fail at the joints

Not at the diode, and rarely along the wire. Strings fail where the moulded joint meets the cable: holders, tee joints, end caps. A fast moulding cycle leaves a void nobody can see. Water enters there, tracks along the copper and shorts the run elsewhere. Ask for potted joints and sealed end caps.

Lumen output and colour across a batch

Chips are sorted into bins that vary in colour and brightness. A run built from mixed bins gives cartons that do not match on a shelf. This is the quiet defect in wholesale LED lighting from China, because every unit works. Specify the kelvin value, 2700K or 4000K, a tolerance, and one chip batch. Then light cartons side by side at pre shipment inspection.

Part Failure Specify in the order Checked by
Driver Capacitor dries out early Brand, model, capacitor rating Opening a unit
Cord set Wrong plug, thin conductor Plug standard, cross section, fuse Comparing to the order
Outdoor string Water entry at joints IP rating, potted joints, sealed cap Soaking a sample
LED chips Colour varies by carton Kelvin, tolerance, one chip batch Lighting cartons together
Marks Printed, no file behind it CE or UKCA, model, rating label Matching reports to goods

The layer we keep in house

Everything above is desk work. The factory supplies the test reports; an agent verifies they exist and match the goods. The second job cannot be done from an inbox.

A report names a driver, a capacitor, a cord set. A run can use a different driver, bought cheaper that week, under the same model number. Catching it means opening a housing on the line, reading the markings against the report, and arguing it out in Mandarin while the run is going. On wholesale LED lighting from China that is what a sourcing agent in Yiwu is for.

Questions buyers ask

What is the minimum order for wholesale LED lighting from China?
Bulk and wholesale only, with a minimum order value of US$5,000. Several models from one factory can be combined to reach it.

Who provides the CE and RoHS test reports?
The factory does. Our job is to confirm they exist, come from a named laboratory, and carry the model number shipped.

Can the driver be checked before shipment?
Yes. Inspection runs in three stages, raw material, in production and pre shipment, with photo and video reports. Units are pulled, powered and opened.

Pioneer Group is a China sourcing agent based in Yiwu, China, helping wholesale and bulk buyers source, inspect and consolidate orders before handover to the buyer’s freight agent.

How Pioneer Group can help

In lighting the proof sits inside a housing nobody opens. Buyers of wholesale LED lighting from China gain most from someone who opens a unit during the run and matches it to the report.

  • Sourcing. Access to 5,000+ factories, with quotes and samples gathered and compared before you commit.
  • Quality inspection. Three stages, raw material, in production, and pre-shipment, with photo and video reports on every batch.
  • Consolidation and freight-agent handover. Orders from multiple suppliers are received at our Yiwu warehouse, consolidated, and handed to the buyer’s nominated freight agent.

Commission is 3 to 5 percent depending on volume and it is negotiable, paid by you and never by the factory, so the price you see is the factory price.
