The three Canton Fair phases are not three chances to see the same fair. They are three separate events sharing one venue, and the categories change completely between them. Book by dates rather than category and you can land in Guangzhou while the goods you buy are off the floor. Here is how to choose, using the 140th session, 15 October to 4 November 2026.
The honest answer about the three Canton Fair phases
Each phase runs five days at the Canton Fair Complex in Pazhou, Guangzhou. The Canton Fair phases are sequential, not parallel, so no phase is a smaller version of another.
Almost nobody attends all three
Attending everything means arriving before 15 October and leaving after 4 November, with two changeover periods in between, 20 to 22 October and 28 to 30 October, when the halls close to buyers. Three weeks is a heavy price for one trade fair.
Your category decides, not your dates
The themes barely overlap. Phase 1 is Advanced Manufacturing, Phase 2 is Quality Home Living, Phase 3 is Better Life. Start from the products that carry your revenue and let the dates follow. The calendar sits in our Canton Fair 2026 dates guide.
3 ways to pick between the Canton Fair phases
When your range does not sit inside one theme, run these tests in order and stop at the first clear answer.
- Revenue weight. List your top ten products by annual purchase value, tag each with its phase, then add up the value per phase. The largest share wins. Counting codes instead of money sends buyers to the wrong hall.
- What you cannot buy from a catalogue. Machinery, electrical goods and anything with a certification file behind it deserves a meeting with the people who build it. Plain homeware can be judged from samples later.
- What a permanent market already covers. If a category is stocked in a wholesale market all year, a show day spent on it is wasted. Keep those days for what is hard to find elsewhere.
When your range straddles two Canton Fair phases
This is the common case. A homeware importer with kitchenware in Phase 2 and small appliances in Phase 1 is looking at 15 to 27 October, thirteen days including three when the halls are shut. The rule: attend the phase carrying what you cannot judge from photographs, and buy the rest through a permanent market.
Why a full three phase trip runs about three weeks
Add it up: five show days, three closed days, five show days, three closed days, five show days. That is 21 days on the ground. The changeover days are closed, so plan them as travel or market time. That gap is why many buyers pair the trip with a year round market, as in our Canton Fair to Yiwu notes.
Close every conversation inside its own phase
Do not assume a supplier you meet on 17 October is still there when Phase 2 opens on 23 October. The categories change and the halls turn over in between, so “I will confirm next week” is not a plan. Before you walk away, get the samples agreed, the price and quantity written down, and a named contact.
What each phase actually carries
These are the official themes for the 140th session. Read them as a filter for your product list, not a complete catalogue. One phase usually holds most of your purchase value, and the lines outside it are the real decision.
| Phase | Dates in 2026 | Theme | Main categories |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | 15 to 19 October | Advanced Manufacturing | Machinery, vehicles, electronics, appliances, hardware, lighting, new materials |
| Phase 2 | 23 to 27 October | Quality Home Living | Ceramics, kitchenware, furniture, home decoration, building materials, gardening, festival products, gifts |
| Phase 3 | 31 October to 4 November | Better Life | Clothing, shoes, bags, toys, baby goods, home textiles, office supplies, food, personal care, pet products |
Where this needs a person on the ground
Here is what this article does not do. It does not take your real product list, match it to one of the Canton Fair phases, and turn that into a day by day plan: which halls to walk in which order, and how much of each day to leave unbooked.
Be careful what you expect from a sourcing agent on the Guangzhou side. We attend the fair, we do not exhibit at it and we have no booth there, so ask us first what we can and cannot do for that leg.
Whatever phase you choose, part of your range will not be in it, and for those lines the answer is usually a permanent market. Yiwu International Trade City trades year round across 5 main districts and 75,000+ booths, and that is where a Yiwu sourcing agent earns the fee: samples pulled while you are still in Guangzhou, and both sets of orders shipped together. Our Yiwu market vs Canton Fair comparison sets out the trade off.
Frequently asked questions
Can I attend all three Canton Fair phases in one trip?
You can: for the 140th session that means 21 days on the ground, including two changeover periods when the halls are closed. Most buyers get more from one phase done properly.
How early should I register for a buyer badge?
Badges and the invitation letter are free, and pre-registration is open all year through the official Buyer Service System. Application windows move, so check the official site, then our invitation letter guide.
What about products my chosen phase does not carry?
Source them somewhere open every day. Pioneer Group works from Yiwu, so lines outside your phase can be sampled, inspected and consolidated with your fair orders into one shipment.
How Pioneer Group can help
The hard part is not picking a phase, it is the half of your list that phase does not carry. We attend the Canton Fair and buy from the Yiwu market, so we can source those lines and load them into the same shipment as your fair orders.
- Sourcing. Access to 5,000+ factories from an office in Yiwu, so you deal with the maker instead of a reseller.
- Quality inspection. Three stages, raw material, in production and pre shipment, with photo and video reports.
- Consolidation and shipping. Orders from many booths received at one warehouse and loaded as a single shipment.
Commission is 3 to 5 percent by order quantity, paid by you and never by the factory, with no hidden markup on the goods. Minimum order value is US$5,000. We reply within 2 hours during China business hours, in English, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Turkish or French.
